Highlights

Bourtzi Castle

Built by the Venetians on the islet of Agioi Theodoroi in 1473, originally called the "Castle of the Throne." Later named “Bourtzi” by the Ottomans. It has served as a prison and, in the 1960s, as a luxury hotel.

Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus

One of the most iconic ancient theatres, renowned for its architecture and perfect acoustics. Built between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC, it still hosts ancient dramas during summer festivals.

Mycenae

The legendary city of Agamemnon from Greek mythology, dating back to the Bronze Age. Its fortified acropolis was a major center of Mycenaean civilization in the 14th and 13th centuries BC.

Acronafplia

Nafplio’s original acropolis, later fortified by the Venetians and Franks. Today, it’s a favorite walking route with panoramic views of the sea and the city.

Palamidi Fortress

Built by the Venetians between 1711–1715 on a hill above Nafplio. Accessible by car or via a famous staircase with 857 (or mythically 999) steps. The view from the top is breathtaking.

The Old Town

How to get around in Nafplio

Transportation options to/from the airport

The nearest airport is in Athens. From there, you can reach Nafplio by car via the Athens-Tripoli national road, following the signs for Argos and Nafplio.

Additionally, Nafplio KTEL buses operate very frequent daily routes connecting the town with both Athens and other areas of Argolis, while the railway (OSE) links Nafplio with Argos and Athens.

Public Transportation

If you are not traveling by your own car, within Nafplio—as well as for longer trips—you can use the city’s taxis or the local buses, which run very frequent routes.

Alternatively, you can explore the town using one of the bicycles provided free of charge by the Municipality. The bikes are available in front of the Town Hall, at the Trion Navarchon Square.

Thank you very much for the group to Athens! They had a great time. They were very enthusiastic about the trip & guide Jason. he swimming/beach stop after Corinth was a big plus. They enjoyed the nature as addition to the city and culture. Always good to add that when visiting Corinth.

The location of the hotel was very good, so a bus transfer in the evening was not always necessary. They could have easily come back via the metro to the hotel. That would have saved us real money.

My Kids and I loved the trip except for our lost baggage from the Aegean airlines upon arrival at Athens at the start of the trip.Loved all the sightseeing. Tour guides and Pick up services were awesome!! Tour guides were very knowledgeable in their area and history of the city and my kids and I loved that. They answered all our questions. Pick up services were always on time.I just wish I had a little more time in Corfu to do the boat tour as I had planned. Wasn’t able to accomplish that.
