Ancient Eretria
Ancient Eretria was once a major naval power and home to an important philosophical school before being destroyed in 87 BC by the Roman general Sulla. The most fascinating site is the House of the Mosaics (370 BC), featuring pebble mosaics depicting mythological scenes.
Ancient Theatre of Eretria
The Ancient Theatre is perhaps the city’s most significant landmark. Built in the early 5th century BC after the Persian invasion, it flourished during the 4th century BC and could accommodate approximately 6,300 spectators.
Island of Dreams
Located next to Eretria, the “Island of Dreams” can be reached on foot, as it is connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land—hence its nickname, Pedestrian Island. Its beaches are crystal clear and beautifully blue.
Wineries
The Lykos family vineyards produce award-winning wines, including Malagousia, combining traditional methods with innovative techniques. Visitors are welcome to enjoy guided tours and tastings of three to four wines at the winery, located 4.5 km west of Eretria.
