Nymfaio looks like a painting forgotten in time. Built at an altitude of 1,350 metres in the middle of a beech forest, this preserved village of Florina enchants visitors with its elegance and the authenticity of nature. Nikeios School
It was built in 1928 with a donation by I. Nikos, based on plans he brought from Sweden. In 1980, it stopped operating. In 1993, on the initiative of Yiannis Boutaris, the building became home to “Arcturos”, an environmental centre dedicated to the protection of wildlife and the natural environment.
A Walk Through the Picturesque Alleys
Walk among the restored imposing mansions and the immaculate cobbled streets of the settlement. Travel guides present it as one of the ten most beautiful villages in Europe, while in the UNESCO global competition it was a candidate for the International Melina Mercouri Prize for the excellent management of cultural heritage and the natural environment.

Brown Bear Sanctuary – Arcturos
The Brown Bear Sanctuary hosts orphaned bear cubs, injured bears and bears rescued from the bear trade. Arcturos actively works for the conservation of the brown bear and its habitat in Greece and the Balkans and played a decisive role in ending the bear trade in Greece.

Transfer Options To / From the Airport
Reach Nymfaio by road. From Thessaloniki, take the Egnatia Motorway towards Veria, then the exit for Florina and continue towards Amyntaio. From Athens, follow the National Road towards Veria and then continue via the Kozani–Florina–Kastoria road axis until you reach the village of Aetos. From there, turn right and continue until you arrive at your destination. Alternatively, you can travel by KTEL intercity bus to Amyntaio and then take a taxi to Nymfaio.
Public Transport
Once you arrive in the area by private car, explore the picturesque neighbourhoods and squares of the village on foot, and admire their remarkable beauty.
