Transportation options to/from the airport
By plane from Athens, Thessaloniki, Crete
Those who decide to come by plane can travel from the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in Athens, the Macedonia Airport in Thessaloniki, and the Nikos Kazantzakis Airport in Heraklion, Crete to the Kalamata Airport, and from there by rental car or KTEL buses proceed to the villages of Mani.
By ferry from Crete
With the port of Rethymno or the port of Kissamos as embarkation stations and the port of Gytheio as the disembarkation station.
By bus from Athens
With KTEL of Laconia: There are daily routes to Gytheio, Areopoli and Gerolimenas from Kifisos, while some of them have Piraeus as an intermediate boarding station. The journey duration is around 5 hours.
With KTEL of Messenia: There are daily routes to Kalamata and from there to Kampos-Kardamyli-Stoupa. The journey duration is around 5 hours.
Public Transportation
The only public transportation in Mani is buses, which, however, are scarce and only go to the large villages.
That is why getting around in Mani is something that can only be done by private car. This way, you will be able to explore every small and large village. However, you must pay special attention, because the roads are narrow and require caution. Also, it is advisable to leave your car away from the village squares and walk down. Congestion from cars usually causes problems that are best avoided.
