How to use transportation in Kythira
Airport/port transportation
Kythira has an airport located in the northeastern part of the island, near the main port of Diakofti. Access is possible by taxi or bus during the summer months.
The island of Kythera is connected to the port of Piraeus with 2-3 weekly itineraries. The trip by boat takes about 6.5 hours. Also, ferries to Kythira depart from the ports of Neapoli and Gythio in the Peloponnese. The route Neapoli-Kythira lasts around 1 hour 30 minutes and from Gythio to Kythira the ferry takes close to 2.5 hours.
Public transportation
Kythira is a large island and distances can be relatively long. Although there are local buses, they run on limited routes. We suggest you to take your car or motorcycle to the ship or rent on the spot to explore the island more comfortably.
