Transport Options to/from the Airport
Edinburgh Airport is located 12 kilometers east of the city center. Access to and from the airport can be made by bus, tram, taxi, or rental car.
The express bus line Airlink 100 connects Edinburgh Airport with Waverley Bridge, which is located near the city’s main railway station and bus terminal. Buses depart every 10 minutes, and the travel time is approximately 30 minutes. The tram line connects Edinburgh Airport with the city center and the railway network at Edinburgh Park and Haymarket stations. Trains depart every 10 minutes, and the travel time is around 35 minutes. The taxi rank is located on the ground floor of the parking area, opposite the main terminal building.
Public Transportation
In Edinburgh, there is no metro system. Apart from the Airlink 100, there are three other bus lines as well as the tram, which take you to other parts of the city with very frequent service.
Regarding taxis, there are two types: the classic black cabs, which you usually hail on the street or find at a taxi rank and are more expensive, and private hire vehicles (minicabs), which can only be booked by phone and are somewhat cheaper.
The city is not huge, and most distances—weather permitting—can be pleasantly covered on foot. Exceptions include the port, the zoo, and Arthur’s Seat, for which you will need a means of transport.
