Fish and chips is one of the most traditional British dishes. The fish is coated in a crispy batter and served with thick-cut chips, which in British English means French fries rather than potato crisps. It is often accompanied by mushy peas, vinegar or tartare sauce.
Depending on where you order it—from a takeaway, a traditional British pub or a restaurant—it may be served in paper wrapping, a takeaway container or on a regular plate.
Chicken tikka masala is also one of the country’s most popular dishes and is often described as a symbol of modern British multicultural cuisine. It consists of pieces of chicken served in a rich, spiced tomato-based sauce.

Within the country, an extensive rail and road network makes travelling between regions easy and efficient.
Visitors from the European Union are required to apply for a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling to the United Kingdom. This requirement forms part of the country’s post-Brexit immigration system and may also apply to passengers transiting through the UK, depending on their travel arrangements.
