Visit Syntagma Square, the heart of the city, and see the historic parliament building. In the afternoon, walk up the path to Akronafplia, the oldest castle of the city, for a stunning view of the Argolic Gulf. End the evening at a traditional taverna, tasting local handmade pasta called gogges.
Dedicate your morning to climbing the historic steps, or driving up, to the massive Palamidi Fortress. Explore its well-preserved bastions and the prison cell of the Greek hero Theodoros Kolokotronis. In the afternoon, head down to the port and take a short boat ride to Bourtzi, the Venetian castle floating on the water. Conclude your day with a relaxing evening walk along the seaside promenade, stopping at a local gelateria for authentic ice cream.
Begin your day with a short excursion to the nearby archaeological site of Mycenae, the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. Marvel at the Lion Gate and the impressive Treasury of Atreus. In the afternoon, head to the neighboring region of Nemea, one of Greece’s premier wine-producing areas. Visit a local estate to taste the famous Agiorgitiko red wine. Return to Nafplio for a cozy dinner in a quiet alley.
Embark on a morning trip to the Sanctuary of Asklepios and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, world-famous for its perfect acoustics and symmetry. Return to Nafplio in the afternoon to visit the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation museum, which showcases traditional Greek costumes and artifacts. Spend a sophisticated evening enjoying a refreshing drink or coffee at a trendy café bar along the lively harbor.
Spend your final morning taking the famous Arvanitia promenade walk, a paved path that hugs the rocky base of Akronafplia castle with the open sea right beside you. This walk is incredibly atmospheric and tranquil.
