Athens, Syros, Naxos & Koufonisia, 10 days
Island Hopping Beyond the Hotspots
This journey is designed for travelers who wish to discover Greece and the Cyclades beyond the most heavily promoted island names. Beginning in Athens, it offers a first introduction to the Greek capital before moving into a more authentic island-hopping route that goes beyond the classic Santorini–Mykonos combination.
The programme combines four very different yet beautifully complementary experiences: Athens, with its energy, history and urban character; Syros, with the elegant neoclassical charm of Ermoupoli; Naxos, with its villages, beaches and fuller island life; and Koufonisia, with its slower rhythm, simplicity and relaxed Cycladic atmosphere. The journey then concludes back in Athens, ensuring a smooth and practical ending for international departures.
Rather than focusing on speed or checklist tourism, this itinerary is built around atmosphere, beautiful transitions, the changing identity of each destination and a more meaningful experience of the Cyclades. It is ideal for individual travelers, couples and small groups looking for a more curated and authentic island journey, without giving up the beauty, food, sea and aesthetics that define a Greek island holiday.

Itinerary
Arrival in Athens and transfer to your hotel. After check-in and time to relax, your first introduction to the Greek capital begins with a gentle walk through Plaka, one of the city’s most atmospheric districts set beneath the Acropolis.
Athens works perfectly as the opening chapter of the journey, offering visitors a first taste of Greece before heading into the islands. The evening is ideal for dinner in the historic center and an overnight stay in Athens.
After breakfast, transfer to the port and departure for Syros. Syros is the ideal first island because it immediately introduces a different side of the Cyclades: more elegant, more urban and more authentic.
Arrival in Ermoupoli and first exploration of the town, with its neoclassical buildings, marble squares and unique atmosphere that feels both island-like and culturally substantial. Dinner may be enjoyed by the port or in the uphill lanes of the town.
Today is dedicated to Syros, and especially to Ermoupoli. Explore the town’s neoclassical mansions, marble streets and stairways, and the route up towards Ano Syros, which gives the island much of its distinctive identity.
The experience here is not simply “a walk on an island,” but an encounter with a place that has genuine urban character, local life and a different kind of Cycladic elegance. The afternoon may unfold at leisure with time for coffee, small discoveries or a relaxed dinner.
After breakfast, depart for Naxos. The contrast is immediate: from the refined elegance of Syros, the journey shifts to an island that feels larger, earthier and more layered.
Arrival in Naxos Town (Chora) and first introduction to the island through its waterfront, old-town lanes and relaxed rhythm. Naxos is ideal for travelers who want something beyond the obvious hotspots, offering both scenery and substance. The afternoon and evening are perfect for a first relaxed walk and dinner in Chora.
Naxos is the island that gives this programme breadth and balance. The day may combine time in Chora with an excursion towards the mountain villages, such as Apeiranthos or other inland settlements, which reveal a richer and more multi-layered island identity than the typical “sun and sea” experience.
At the same time, Naxos is also known for its beach life, making it possible to combine villages, sea and local gastronomy within the same day. This is one of the reasons Naxos works so well as the central island of the itinerary.
Today the journey shifts into its most relaxed chapter. Departure for Koufonisia, one of the most peaceful and atmospheric destinations in the Cyclades.
On arrival, the mood changes immediately: smaller scale, gentler rhythm, less movement and a stronger connection to the sea. The rest of the day is ideal for settling in, enjoying a first walk through the settlement and a simple dinner in an unpretentious Cycladic setting.
Today is fully dedicated to Koufonisia and its distinctly relaxed character. The aim here is not to rush through the island, but to enjoy small beaches, walking, turquoise waters and the rare feeling of effortless calm.
This is exactly what gives the programme its identity: it introduces travelers to Cyclades that remain bright, elegant and beautiful, while still feeling genuine and unforced.
Depending on ferry schedules, the day may begin with one more peaceful morning in Koufonisia before returning to Naxos, allowing the journey to close smoothly from a larger island with easier onward connections to Athens.
The afternoon and evening can then be dedicated to a final walk through Naxos Town and a farewell dinner.
After breakfast, departure from Naxos and return to Athens. This final overnight stay in the capital gives the programme the right structure and level of comfort, especially for international travelers requiring an easy connection to their return flight.
The rest of the day may be spent enjoying one final walk, some shopping or a relaxed final dinner in the city.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and departure. The journey comes to an end having presented a more thoughtful and rewarding version of Greece and the Cyclades: the urban energy of Athens, the elegance of Syros, the depth of Naxos and the complete calm of Koufonisia.
