Itinerary
Arrival at Thessaloniki. Welcome and transfer to the hotel – Free afternoon. We suggest a walk to discover the vibes of the City.
Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki.
In the morning, guided tour of the city. Thessaloniki throughout the era of the Byzantine Empire was the “co-reigning” city, second in population and prestige after Istanbul. Visit the unique monuments and feel the glorious Byzantine past in some of the oldest and most characteristic churches of the Christian world. Visit the best sites that represent the historical and cultural significance of Thessaloniki. These sites include the White Tower, the Old city in the upper part of Thessaloniki, the Saint Demetrios Church and many others. Free time for lunch. Afternoon free to enjoy the bustling center of the city.
Dinner and overnight in Thessaloniki.
Buffet breakfast and departure for Vergina, where we will have the chance to see the most valuable Macedonian tombs, one of which is of Philip II, which was brought to light by the excavation of archaeologist M. Andronikos in 1977. Visit to the archaeological site and museum.
Return in Thessaloniki and rest of the afternoon free at leisure. Dinner and overnight.
Buffet breakfast and departure for Kerkini Lake: Enjoy the pleasures of eco-tourism: A sanctuary for birds and humans alike, the calm, unruffled lake offers itself for birdwatching and boating, while its shores are perfect for cycling and walks.
We continue to Amphipolis. It is famous in history for events such as the battle between the Spartans and Athenians in 422 BC, also as the place where Alexander the Great prepared for campaigns leading to his invasion of Asia. Excavations in and around the city have revealed important buildings, ancient walls and tombs. The unique and beautiful “Lion of Amphipolis” monument nearby is a popular destination for visitors.
Early in the afternoon we return to the hotel. Dinner and evening group entertainment. Overnight.
