The Ultimate Peloponnese Wine & Culinary Journey, 10 days

After breakfast, get ready for a fascinating journey into the heart of antiquity. Our certified guide will lead you to the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis to admire the Parthenon and the Erechtheion. This is followed by a tour of the city’s major landmarks and a visit to the impressive Acropolis Museum. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy Athenian gastronomy at selected downtown restaurants.

We leave Athens and make our first stop at the imposing Corinth Canal. We visit the archaeological site of Ancient Corinth and continue to Nemea, the most important wine-producing zone in Southern Greece, also known as the “Blood of Hercules.” Here we will visit top wineries to taste the famous red variety Agiorgitiko. Late in the afternoon, arrival at the beautiful town of Nafplio.

The day is dedicated to UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We will explore Mycenae, the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon, and marvel at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, famous for its perfect acoustics. Afterwards, we will follow the Argolida wine route, tasting local wines at a selected estate in the region, before returning to Nafplio for a relaxing evening.

We travel into the heart of the Peloponnesian land, Arcadia. Our day begins with the impressive exploration of the Kapsia Cave, one of the most important natural wonders of Greece. We then cross the renowned Mantineia wine zone. We will visit two different wineries specializing in the aromatic Moschofilero variety, where we will be introduced to traditional winemaking while enjoying excellent white wines paired with a traditional lunch.

In the morning, we visit the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil in Sparta to understand the value of this precious good. This is followed by a guided tour of the magical Byzantine castle town of Mystras, a living museum full of Byzantine churches and palaces. In the afternoon, a special wine tasting experience awaits us at a local Laconia vineyard, where we will taste rare local varieties.

Our route leads to the stunning, miraculous chapel of Agia Theodora in the village of Vasta, with 17 trees sprouting from its roof without visible roots. Continuing towards Messinia, a region blessed with fertile land, we will follow the wine trails, participating in tastings under the shade of centuries-old olive trees and vines.

We explore historical Pylos and its impressive fortress, Niokastro, enjoying unique views over the Bay of Navarino. We then travel north towards Ilia, one of the most up-and-coming wine regions in Greece. There we will visit a local estate for wine tasting and authentic mezes, approaching the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

In the morning, we transfer to the majestic archaeological site of Ancient Olympia. We will walk in the ancient stadium and feel the spirit of the first Olympic Games. We depart for our return to Athens. In the evening, we celebrate the completion of our trip with an “Athens Food Experience” – a gastronomic tour or a farewell dinner featuring exquisite Greek flavors in the capital.
