Itinerary
Start your day by arriving at the port of Livadi. In the late afternoon, head up to Chora, widely considered one of the most spectacular capitals in the Cyclades. Stroll through its labyrinthine, whitewashed alleys up to the main square of Pano Piatsa, admiring the traditional architecture and the colorful neoclassical town hall. End the evening with a traditional dinner at a lively taverna, tasting authentic island dishes like marathotiganites (fennel fritters) and local cheeses.
Dedicate your morning to exploring the southwestern part of the island. Drive to Megalo Livadi, an open-air museum of the island’s late 19th-century mining boom. Walk past the old loading bridge extending into the sea, the miners’ memorial, and the old railway tracks. Conclude your day by enjoying a spectacular, quiet sunset over the historic bay, dining at a seaside fish taverna right on the sand.
Begin your day by visiting the imposing Monastery of Taxiarches in the north. Built like a towering fortress in the 16th century to protect against pirate raids, it houses remarkable frescoes and religious artifacts. In the afternoon, hike one of the island’s ancient footpaths or mining trails, resting your legs later at a traditional hillside eatery to experience the island’s warm, rugged hospitality and local meat dishes.
Embark on a relaxed morning visiting the Folklore Museum in Kato Chora to dive deeper into the island’s traditional way of life. Next, visit a local winery (like the renowned Chrysoloras winery) to taste unique Cycladic wine varieties grown in the island’s arid, mineral-rich soil. In the afternoon, head to Psili Ammos beach, famous for its fine, golden sand and shallow waters, relaxing under the shade of the tamarisk trees.
Spend your final morning walking along the peaceful shores of Livadakia or the double bay of Agios Sostis, featuring a picturesque church on the peninsula. These expansive sands and crystal-clear waters are incredibly atmospheric and tranquil. Stroll past the quiet coastline, picking up authentic local souvenirs before relaxing with a final frappe or Greek coffee by the lively port of Livadi, soaking in the island vibes one last time before heading to the ferry for your departure.
