Discover Crete at your own pace with this 8-day self-drive itinerary, designed for travelers who want freedom, comfort and authentic local experiences. This journey combines ancient history, Venetian towns, traditional villages, beaches, mountain landscapes and Cretan gastronomy.
The program includes 3 nights in Heraklion, 1 night in Rethymno and 3 nights in Chania, allowing guests to explore the island from east to west in a smooth and relaxed way.
Minoan Heritage: Explore the legendary Palace of Knossos and marvel at the treasures inside the Heraklion Archaeological Museum.
Venetian Charm: Wander through the beautifully preserved old towns, fortresses, and harbors of Heraklion, Rethymno, and Chania.
Iconic Beaches: Swim in the crystal-clear waters of the famous pink-sand Elafonissi Beach and the breathtaking Balos Lagoon.
Spinalonga Island: Take a scenic boat trip from Elounda to discover the rich and fascinating history of this historic islet.

Itinerary
Arrival at Heraklion airport or port. Pick up your rental car and drive to your hotel.
Free time to enjoy a first walk around Heraklion’s historic center, the Venetian harbor, the Loggia and Koules Fortress. Optional dinner at a traditional tavern or a modern Cretan restaurant.
Overnight: Heraklion
Today is dedicated to Crete’s Minoan heritage. Visit the Palace of Knossos, one of the most important archaeological sites on the island.
Afterwards, continue to the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, home to one of the most important collections of Minoan artifacts.
Afternoon at leisure for shopping, coffee or a walk along the city walls.
Overnight: Heraklion
Self-drive excursion to eastern Crete. Suggested route towards Agios Nikolaos, with time to visit Lake Voulismeni and the seaside area.
Continue to Elounda and optionally take a boat trip to Spinalonga Island. Return to Heraklion in the afternoon.
Overnight: Heraklion
After breakfast, check out and drive towards Rethymno. Suggested stops along the way include Arkadi Monastery, Margarites village or Ancient Eleutherna.
Arrival in Rethymno and check-in at the hotel. Enjoy a walk through the old town, the Venetian harbor, the narrow streets and the Fortezza.
Overnight: Rethymno
Depart for Chania. Suggested stops include Lake Kournas, Georgioupolis or Ancient Aptera.
Arrival in Chania and check-in at the hotel. In the afternoon, explore Chania’s old town, the Venetian harbor, the lighthouse, the Municipal Market area and the charming historic alleys.
Overnight: Chania
Today’s suggested excursion takes you to Elafonissi, one of the most famous beaches in western Crete. Enjoy a scenic drive through villages and natural landscapes, with free time for swimming and relaxation.
Return to Chania in the afternoon. Evening at leisure.
Overnight: Chania
Suggested full-day excursion to Balos Lagoon and Gramvousa, either by boat from Kissamos or by self-drive to the permitted access point, depending on season and road conditions.
Alternatively, enjoy a more relaxed day exploring the countryside of Chania, with visits to traditional villages, a winery, an olive oil estate or a local tavern experience.
Overnight: Chania
Breakfast and check-out. Return the rental car at Chania airport/port or drive back to Heraklion, depending on the departure arrangements.
