Riga

Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia, as well as the most important cultural and economic city in the country. The Old Town of Riga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is full of medieval alleys, Gothic churches, squares, and colorful houses. A major cultural attraction is the Riga Cathedral, one of the most important religious buildings in the country. Visit St. Peter’s Tower, which offers a panoramic view, and the Art Nouveau district, one of the richest collections of buildings in Europe in the Art Nouveau style. The Latvian Museum of Art hosts exhibitions of Latvian and European art, and the Museum of Ethnology recounts the tradition, arts, and history of the Latvians and other Baltic peoples. Cafés, bars, jazz clubs, wine bars, and a techno scene liven up the nights for visitors and locals. Riga is located on the coast of the Baltic Sea and is surrounded by rivers and parks, such as Bastejkalna or the Botanical Garden. Go cycling or boating on the Daugava River and enjoy Jurmala beach.
