In Sparta, you should definitely try syglino (cured pork), roasted suckling pig, charcoal-smoked trout, rafiolia (sweet turnovers), homemade pasta, the famous lupins (local legumes), and traditional spoon sweets. Before leaving Sparta, don’t forget to take with you some of the exceptional quality local products, such as high-quality organic olive oil, olives from small-scale producers, Taygetus honey, chestnuts and walnuts from Georgitsi and Kastoreio, as well as liqueurs, ouzo, and wines from local producers.

Sparta does not have an airport. However, you can fly to Kalamata International Airport either from Athens (approximately 55 minutes) or from Thessaloniki (approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes).
Kalamata Airport is 90 km away from the city of Sparta. Access to and from the airport is available by bus, taxi, or rental car.
You can travel to Sparta by road using the KTEL bus from Athens (duration approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes). If traveling by car, the distance is 220 km from Athens and 700 km from Thessaloniki.
Public Transport
Unfortunately, Sparta does not have a local bus network. To get around, you need to have your own private vehicle. Alternatively, you can rent a car there.
