Jeep tour Xanthi - Komotini and Ropodi mountain

Τhe journey begins with the pickup of the jeeps in Thessaloniki. Fist stop Amfipoli. (optionally 2h guided tour in the archaeological site and the museum). Continue for Xanthi. The city with 1000 colors, free time in the hotel, late in the afternoon we will visit the old town of Xanthi. Visit to the folk museum and the museum of shadows. Dinner at a tavern with local cuisine.  (Day total 230 km)

Following the ancient Egnatia road (via Egnatia) after 25 km by Kompsatos river, we will visit the ancient 3bows (arche) stone Bridge and continue for the guided tour in the glorious 2WW Metaxas underground fortress,  one of the battle fields of the operation Marita.  We will continue for Komotini town, arriving after 12 km, free time at the city. Next stop will be at the National park Vistonis Lake and  Porto Lagos,  using

telescope, we will see the many different species of birds and buffalos. After that we suggest a meal with seafood in a local restaurant at the Fanari village. Return in Xanthi. (Day Total: 150 km) 

We visit Sminthi and Echinos villages. Using a 30 km dirty road we arrival in Medousa and Thermes Village. Visit the hot springs and enjoy a thermal bath. Lunch in a local restaurant. In late afternoon we will return to Xanthi. (Day Total: 120 km)

Today we will explore a part of the Rodopi mountain line, a forest with Oak, Beech, Birch, Pine, and Norway spruce. Rodopi is the biotope - the habitat of the brown bear. We will enjoy the beauty of nature in an unique landscape, hiking 4km - 2h aprx ( 2h total moderate natural state without problem in the knees and legs and NO asthma) to the 45m Livaditis waterfall. After that we enjoy a meal or a barbeque in the Forest Village.  Late in the afternoon we will arrive at Paranesti. Overnight.  (Day Total: 150 km)  

Today we have two options.

1^st option

Paranesti. We will visit the Natural history museum and continue for the visit of the 2 artificial Dams and lakes of Nestos river, one of them, “Thesaurus”, is the biggest in Balkans with 185m height. Now is time to enjoy a Rafting in Nestos River.

Route: Platanovrisi - Paranesti (Drama Periphery). Specially made river boats of 6 -10 people and a river guide on every boat.

Rate of difficulty: 2-3.

Total time of activity: approximately 4 hours – 2 into the river.

Children over 11 are welcome as long as into the boat are at least 2 – 4 adults.

Meeting - Gathering at our Paranesti Base at 12.30'. Necessary equipment is provided (Neopren uniforms – life vests – helmets – rows). Transportation to the entrance into the river point (15'). Rules of safety and rowing instructions will be given by our river guides. The 2hour route is beautiful and exciting. Nestos is the 4^th largest river of Greece. At the beginning of the route are 4 impressive passages, later the beautiful Forest by the river and finally Paranesti (end of the route).  Hot coffee and herbal tea from local herbs is served.

Note: Due to water flow (that is controlled by the Platanovrisi Dam) changes might occur during the activity. Worst and most rare case not to be able to make rafting.

Return to Paranesti late in the afternoon. Overnight. (Day total 60 km)

2^nd option

Enjoy  the beauty of  Rodopi Mountains. Arrival in  Elatia Forest, pic nic  under the trees and near  the cold water springs or Lepida Waterfalls (walking  30 -45)  and Agia Varvara waterfalls.

Today we will visit  the Agitis Cave (World’s largest river cave)  guided tour 1 h. Continue for Drama city. Free time: visit the Agia Varvara’s spring and the Jewish monument. We will continue for a visit to the Manolesakis winery to taste some local wines. Return to Thessaloniki late in the afternoon. Overnight. (Day Total: 250 km).
