Elafonissi Beach

Elafonissi, located on the southwest coast of the island, is renowned for its breathtaking white and pink coral sands that create a tropical paradise. Ideal for families, the shallow waters in the small enclosed lagoon are perfect for children. A walk through the lagoon leads to a picturesque islet, enhancing the beach's unique allure. Popular among swimmers, spear fishermen, and windsurfers globally, Elafonissi also holds historical significance. In 1841, during the Turkish occupation of Crete, 650 women and children took refuge on the islet, only to be discovered and massacred by Turkish soldiers. A memorial plaque honors their memory.
